With a Made Up Mind

Happy New Year ladies! We are in the first week of the new year and it is the perfect time to begin again. Last year brought a lot of challenges to many people, myself included. However, we are blessed to be able to see another year. The question I encouraged you to ask yourself is…What are you going to do differently to make this year better than last year? Personally, I have given serious thought to that question and I have decided to make mental health and self-care a priority in my life this year. Ladies, I believe we can all agree, as women we take care of everyone else and neglect ourselves. But the truth is, if we don't take care of ourselves, we will not be able to take care of anyone else. It is imperative that whatever you choose to work on, do it with all diligence. In other words, do it with a made up mind and don’t stop until you have accomplished your goal.

Make sure you understand people, things, or certain situations around you may not change, but how you respond to them can change. You have the power within yourself to decide, if someone cuts you off in traffic will that make you angry enough to have road rage or will you stay in peace. You have the power within yourself to decide, if waking up late and having to rush to get to work will that cause you to be mean and disrespectful towards your coworkers or will you treat them the way you want to be treated. Also, you have the power within yourself to decide if you have an argument with your friend or partner will that make you angry enough to take it to a level where your words cut so deep it destroys the relationship or will you stay calm and offer a compromise and resolution.

This year I have also chosen, and it is a choice, to stay in peace no matter what comes my way. I have made up my mind that getting angry and upset does not change the situation or undo what has been done. It only stresses and frustrates my life. Notice I did not say it would not bother me or make me angry. Although it may, I have opted to stay in peace. I encourage you to practice doing the same. Let’s start this year out with a positive mindset, controlling our emotions, and celebrating every accomplishment, no matter how small they may seem to be.

Love & Blessings,
