God Doesn’t Waste Pain: Finding Purpose in Your Story

Hello Queen,

I pray you have enjoyed your weekend and are having a wonderful start to your week. I was deep in thought this weekend as I embraced some quiet time of my own. I was looking over my journey in life and all I had been through since I was a child. Nevertheless, despite the trauma, tears, and pain, a smile came on my face, and my heart immediately lit up because I remembered my mother saying, “Baby, God doesn’t waste anything you’ve ever been through”. My beautiful sister, today I want you to know every scar tells a story. Every tear has a purpose. Every painful season you’ve endured wasn’t for nothing. God was there, shaping you, strengthening you, and preparing you. In a world that often tells you to hide your brokenness, God invites you to bring it into the light because He never wastes pain. What the enemy meant to destroy you, God will use to deliver you and others as you share your story.

No matter what you've been through, abandonment, rejection, trauma, divorce, loss, or shame, God can redeem it. Your story, with all its beauty and brokenness, is the very thing He’ll use to reveal His glory. Queen, don’t let anyone make you feel ashamed of what you’ve been through. Remember this: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”. Eleanor Roosevelt. Whenever you decide to share your story, be strong and courageous and share it with confidence, share it with your head held high, and share it from a place of victory. The devil took his best shot and lost because you are still here, and God is not through with you yet. If you can make it through that, you can make it through this.

Scripture Reflection

Romans 8:28 (NIV)"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

My beautiful sister, this verse doesn’t promise that everything will feel good, but it does promise that everything will be used for good. Your pain is part of your preparation. Your wounds are becoming wisdom. God is taking your shattered pieces and crafting a testimony that can set others free.

Psalm 34:18 (NIV)"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

God is near you, not just in your strength, but especially in your sorrow. He is working in the dark places, redeeming the parts of your story you thought were unusable.

Reflection Questions

Sis, take a moment to sit quietly and meditate on these questions and answer them for yourself. Be honest, it’s just between you and God.

  1. What painful experience have I endured that still feels unresolved or misunderstood?

  2. Have I ever doubted that God could use my brokenness for something good?

  3. In what ways has my pain changed me for better or worse?

  4. Who might need to hear my story to know that healing is possible?

  5. How can I begin to surrender my pain to God instead of hiding or ignoring it?

Journal Prompts
  • Write a letter to your younger self, right in the middle of her pain. What does she need to hear? How can you reassure her that healing is possible?

  • List 3 major life experiences that once caused you pain, and next to each one, write how God has already (or could) brought purpose from them.

  • Journal a prayer of surrender, giving God the parts of your story you’ve been ashamed of or silent about.

Prayer for You, Beautiful Warrior

Heavenly Father,

I lift up my sister, who is reading these words. Lord, You see every tear she’s cried and every heartbreak she’s endured. Thank You for being close to her in the darkest moments. I pray that You begin to reveal the beauty in her brokenness. Show her how her story, no matter how messy or painful, matters deeply in Your kingdom. Fill her with hope that redemption is possible, and healing is near. Help her find purpose in the very places she once only felt pain. Let her be a light to others walking through what she has already survived. May she rise up strong, courageous, and full of grace, knowing that You never waste pain. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Love and Blessings,

Dr. Doris
