Hello Queen,
I pray you are doing well and continuing to see how blessed you are every moment of the day. As I said in my last blog, the hurricane that hit South Carolina was a wake up call for me. Unless you have had any close encounters of any kind that makes you think twice about the sanctity of life, you may not fully understand what I am talking about. Nevertheless, as I look back on the different seasons of my life and how I was not cognitively aware of God’s love and protection for myself and my children, it makes me want to cry. For a moment, I felt bad for taking His love, mercy, grace, and protection for granted. Then, in the next moment I felt the comfort of an overwhelming sensation of peace. It was as if God himself was showing me that He is not angry at me for being human and focusing on my daily life as a single mom trying to keep everything together. It was a beautiful moment which said to me that God understands we have to “do life” and although He desires for us to spend more time in His presence, but if we don’t or can’t at that time, He still loves us and kisses us with life every morning when he fills our lungs with air, blesses our heart to continue to beat, and endows us with favor to see His glory in nature. Wow! How deep is that love?
Think about it. As humans, if someone offends us, betrays us, or makes us mad, we want to cut them off. Sometimes without even a conversation to get clarity, or to resolve a misunderstanding, or even give that person an opportunity to apologize and ask for forgiveness. My prayer is that we learn to do better, me included. Let’s learn what true love is and practice it every chance we get. There is a scripture that says, “And may you have the power to understand as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is". Ephesians 3:18. We may not understand it now, but starting today, let’s be intentional about seeking to learn the depth of God’s love. Here are five ways to help you get started and that can guide you on your journey.
Study God’s Word with an Open Heart
Dive into scriptures that specifically speak about God’s love, such as John 3:16, Romans 5:8, and Ephesians 3:17-19. Reflect on the stories and parables that reveal His love and compassion, like the Prodigal Son.
Journal what stands out and pray for understanding as you read. God's Word is a powerful way He communicates His love to us.
Spend Time in Prayer and Reflection
Speak openly with God, sharing your thoughts, doubts, and hopes. Ask Him to help you understand His love in a personal way.
Practice silent reflection to listen for His voice. Over time, you’ll start to recognize the gentle guidance of His love in your life.
Observe God’s Love in Creation and Daily Life
Look for signs of God’s care in everyday moments, the beauty of nature, the kindness of others, or small blessings. Each is a reminder of His continuous, tender care.
Reflect on how He provides, protects, and has been faithful, even in challenging times.
Experience His Love Through Community and Relationships
Engage with others in a faith community, whether a church group, Bible study, or fellowship gathering. The love shared in these settings is a reflection of God’s love.
Allow people you feel safe with and have walk with through different seasons of life to pray for you and support you. God often uses people as vessels of His love and compassion.
Practice Acts of Love and Service
When we serve others selflessly, we participate in God’s love. Look for ways to care for people around you, family, friends, or even strangers.
As you give, you often experience a deeper understanding of His love, realizing that love flows abundantly when it’s shared.
My Final Thoughts
My sister, together, these steps create a pathway to experiencing and internalizing the depth of God’s love. It becomes a living, active presence in your life as it has mine, transforming the way you see yourself, others, and God Himself. May each day you live bring you a revelation and understanding of the depth of God’s love for you and how much you mean to Him.
Love and Blessings,
Dr. Doris
