What exactly Are You Saying? (Part One)

Healthy Communication is the ability to communicate without offering hateful or hurtful responses.

Effective Communication is the process of exchanging ideas, opinions, thoughts, knowledge, and information so that the message has a purpose, and is received and understood with clarity. Both parties in the conversation feel satisfied.

Active Listening involves going beyond simply hearing the words that another person speaks but also seeking to understand the meaning and intent behind them.

Healthy and effective communication is a vital part of all relationships and is the essence of a healthy partnership. All relationships have ups and downs, but a healthy and effective communication style can make it less challenging to deal with conflict and it aids in building a stronger and healthier partnership. This information will be shared in two parts. Here are the first five benefits of healthy and effective communication, and active listening.

1. It builds trust

Healthy and effective communication encourages trust with others. Your ability to listen attentively and welcome different points of view helps others trust that you are interested in and you value what they are sharing. This type of trust will extend not only to your partner and immediate family but to others in your life, including yourself. You will begin to trust your decision-making abilities, your moral compass, and your values.

2. Helps to prevent and resolve problems

The ability to exhibit healthy and effective communication plays a large role in resolving conflicts and preventing potential ones from developing. The key is to remain calm and make sure everyone is being heard without interruption or bias. Then find a solution that helps everyone involved feel satisfied.

3. Provides clarity and direction

With healthy and effective communication skills, you will be able to provide clear expectations and reasonable outcomes for those involved. This includes finding positive ways to point out when something isn’t working as well as providing encouraging and helpful feedback to get things back on track. This will also help eliminate misunderstanding and confusion.

4. Creates restored relationships

Healthy and effective communication also restores relationships. Listening carefully and offering quality feedback helps people to feel heard and understood. This, in turn, cultivates mutual respect for one another. If the parties involve are willing and have a desire for the relationship to be restored, it can be reestablished stronger than it was before.

5. Increases and strengthens engagement

When people feel respected and valued in the relationship and they understand what they need to do, they become happier and willing to be more engaged in the relationship as a whole. They no longer see the relationship from a selfish point of view, but more from a selfless point of view. For example, instead of you reminding him it’s your birthday, he will have already made plans to celebrate you on your day. However, remember this will not happen overnight. It is a process that will take time. So be patient it is worth the wait.
